Waste Management – Bespoke Dual Conveyor System

The Project

We were approached by Smurfit Westrock to develop a bespoke waste management solution that would improve production efficiency, reduce downtime, and eliminate the potential for human error associated with manual waste handling.

The objective was to automate the removal and transportation of waste material from a cutting machine, while ensuring the system was designed around the existing factory layout and maintained safe access for machine operators using the surrounding walkways.

Our Solution

Following an initial consultation, we designed and manufactured a fully bespoke dual conveyor system, consisting of two integrated conveyors working together to automate the waste removal process.

The first conveyor feeds directly from the cutting machine, collecting and transporting waste material away from the production area. The material is then transferred onto the second conveyor, which carries it across to the customer's existing conveyor system, where it is transported onwards to the waste compactor.

A key consideration throughout the design process was maintaining safe operator access. The conveyor system was carefully designed to transport waste material at an appropriate height, allowing machine operators to continue using the walkways safely without disruption to their daily operations.

Design, Manufacture & Installation

This was a complete turnkey project, with our team managing every stage from initial concept through to final installation on site.

We began by producing detailed CAD designs, allowing us to demonstrate the proposed system to the customer and show how the conveyors would integrate with the existing machinery and waste handling equipment.

Once the design was approved, we undertook the full manufacture and assembly process, including:

  • Bespoke steel fabrication and welding of the conveyor support structures.
  • Mechanical design and assembly of conveyor belts, drive shafts and motor systems.
  • Electrical design, wiring and installation of the control panel.
  • Integration of both conveyors into a single, coordinated waste management system.
  • On-site installation and commissioning.

By managing the entire process in-house, we were able to maintain control over the design, build quality and integration of the finished system.

The Result

The completed dual conveyor system provided Smurfit Westrock with an automated, reliable and purpose-built waste management solution.

By removing the need for manual waste handling, the system helps reduce operator intervention, minimise the potential for human error and improve overall production efficiency. It also integrates seamlessly with the customer's existing conveyor and compactor system, while maintaining safe access throughout the working area.

Another bespoke engineering solution, designed, manufactured, and installed by our team from start to finish.
